I'm 33 today! (Blogmas Series #10)

Hey peeps! It’s my birthday today. Uh-uh, uh-uh!!!

My niece asked me how old I was and I answered her the age of Jesus when he died. She laughed at me and said – « Why is it that you can’t answer a simple question like everyone else? » Ha ha, maybe because I’m not like everyone else! I answered back to her.

The way I feel this year is nothing like how I felt last year. Last year was fucking hard and my mind completely messed up. But as soon as the new year passed, I felt myself breathe again and most importantly live again the way I want to.

And the way I wanted to celebrate my birthday this year was like I’d never done before. Les Portes Ouvertes or An Open House theme. People laughed when I told them of my idea, but I didn’t care. The idea was to open my home from 9AM-onwards to friends and family. Since my birthday is on a Saturday this year and is close to Christmas, I figured people would be busy shopping, preparing for Christmas, or already had plans. So, they could simply drop home whenever they wanted. Of course, I would prepare food all day long – from breakfast to lunch to snacks and finally dinner.

Turns out, those who laughed at my idea enjoyed it the most!

So, how did my special day go?

It started a little after midnight as Baby Girl insisted on giving me her gift. A month ago, she told me that she wanted to buy me a gift for my birthday. I told her that she didn’t have to, but when I swathe sadness in her face, I quickly changed my mind. She gave this Legami USB Mug Warmer. I’m not very materialistic and it doesn’t take much to make me happy. It means the world to me knowing that Baby Girl thought of getting me this so I could take my time enjoying a warm cup of coffee or tea every morning!

The Husband surprised me with his too. We’ve been together for 16 years and this is the first time he got me a jewelry according to my taste and not his. Apparently Baby Girl was with him when they went to buy this. Haha. I love you, Hubby! ? ?

Breakfast was served at 9AM with our first guests. We had Avo-Toast, Scrambled Eggs, Fried Bacon, Tomatoes, Pancakes, Fresh Fruits, Coffee, and Juice.

Talking, gossiping, laughing, eating …  – you know how it goes.

Before I knew it, it was time to prepare lunch and a new wave of friends arrived.

Lunch was Roasted Chicken and Spaghetti Bolognese (for long life, of course!). A very popular combo in the Philippines, in case you’re wondering.

The biggest wave of friends and family came after lunch. Some were just done with their Christmas shopping, some were going after. I was just so happy to see them!

We spent the afternoon munching on savory and sweet snacks and chatting. The Husband and our good friend who’s Japanese even had a Chess competition! Did I ever tell you that The Husband is a freaking great chess player?! He’s the one who taught me!

Almost everyone left before dinner, but our Filipina friend and her boyfriend soon arrived.

Dinner was Pochero, Filipino Beef Soup. Kinda like the Filipino-Style Pot au Feu, which we enjoyed with white rice. It was too difficult to resist having a second helping!

Forget about being tired. I was having too much fun to think about anything else. But the cherry on top of it all?

It started to snow at midnight!

Thank you for this amazing day. Thank you to our Creator for giving me this life and all of its blessings. Thank you to my family for loving me for who I am. Thank you to my friends who spice up my life. Thank you to you. Thank you!

xoxo Elodie
