"George Bankkkkkkks!!" was the first thing that came out of my mouth when the first episode started rolling. With the accent of course! Haha We all laughed and I immediately knew we were going to love this. By the end of season 1, I kept thinking to myself "why didn't we watch this earlier??". But with spring break + covid, it seemed like the perfect timing.
Steve Martin and Martin Short (enter the Father of the Bride reference) teamed up again for this murder mystery series and took Selena Gomez along with them. In the series, the three are complete strangers with two things in common: they live in the same Upper West Side building and they are obsessed with a true crime podcast. The murder of their neighbour, which was ruled out as a suicide by the police, brings them together as they start investigating the case and launch their own podcast.
What I love most about this show is that it's a crime fiction with a comedic approach. It is focused on what's important. The "love story" even takes a backseat and that's okay. The chemistry between the main characters is amazing and feels very natural, but really, what can you expect from a legend like Steve Martin?
I can't help but praise it to friends and family. This is a wonderful series to watch as a family or not, and if you're a fan of crime fiction without all that dark, disturbing violence. It actually reminds me of a book I read last year - The Thursday Murder Club - but in a much better way.
So I wasn't exactly excited to start season 1 of Only Murders in the Building, but now I simply can't wait for season 2!!!!
